Use
garage sales to find new
inventory. Once you have
sold off all your own junk and are
forced to look for new sources, don’t
overlook the neighborhood garage
sales. Make sure that you
study the
yard/moving/garage/estate sales
section in your local paper the
evening prior to your excursion
and plan your route so that stops
are close to each other.
Visit
wealthy neighborhoods first
to obtain items with the highest
resale value. Next, visit older,
well-established neighborhoods to
search for collectibles. Arrive at
the sales 30 to 45 minutes before
the advertised start time if at
all possible, so that you can at
least scope out the inventory, if
not get a jump on the buying
frenzy. Bring small bills and
loose change as sellers are often
not well prepared to provide
change. Always be willing to
bargain and don’t forget to
rummage through the free box.
Do not sell what everyone else is
selling or something that you know
and love, unless there is a demand
for it. Where can you get ideas of
things that will sell successfully
on eBay? Look
in the lifestyle and business
sections of newspapers to get into
the minds of consumers and look at
major stores’ advertisements.
Look at magazines to see what
niche markets are available and
what people interested in these
specific areas are buying. Talk to
salespeople in malls and other
store to find out what is popular
right now. There are even
trend-spotting websites that can
show you what the newest “it”
items will be (www.trendwatching.com)
Always keep your eyes on the
television and movie industry as
new television and movie hits
always drive sales of their
corresponding merchandise. You
